Editing your photos without overdoing it

Editing is the last step of taking a photo, not a way to rescue a bad one. A few simple adjustments can make a good picture look the way the scene felt. Too many make it look fake. Shoot for the edit

If your camera can save RAW files, use them. A RAW file keeps all the data from the sensor, so you can recover more detail in the highlights and shadows and fix the colour without damaging the image. JPEG files are smaller and ready to share, but the camera has already made decisions for you.
